Great Conversation Starters For Your First Date

Okay so you have not been out in ages and finally you are going out on a date, but if you have been off of the dating scene for months or even years then you want to make sure that your first date goes okay. Well as we all know conversation can either make or break a first date so here are some great conversation ideas for your first date.

Firstly you need to find some common ground, in theory a good first date would be a movie followed by a meal, breaking the ice by talking about the movie, but people tend to think back to when they were in college, when they went to movies so nobody could see them in the back row! So maybe consider a some live music, the theatre, watching a play or a sport you may have in common.

Thing to avoid talking about at all costs are religion and politics. These can kill a date off within minutes, result in major arguments and have been known to start small wars. Also steer well clear of sexual preferences on the first few dates. Being into bondage is one thing, dropping it in to conversation over a bowl of soup is not!

A few good conversation starters are detailed below, all of which are designed as ice breakers to get conversation flowing and not the start of chatting the other person up.

1.) "Look around this room. Who do you think will be dead before the years out?" - This is a great opening one if you're in a restaurant and "People watching"

2.) "Have you lived in this area long?" - Simple but effective, if the answer is yes you can ask them where they grew up, went to school etc. If it is no, then you can ask them what drew them to the area.

3.) Travel? - Ask them where they have been and what is their favourite place. Nearly everyone loves traveling and likes to talk about where they have been to. A sure fire ice breaker on a date.

4.) Work? - "If you were to live your life again what would be your ideal job?" This gives the other person a great deal of scope and is highly likely to result in some form of humorous response breaking the ice. The question is likely to then be asked of you, and hey presto your conversation is off and running

Lastly always be yourself, the other person is human as well so talk as though you normally would. With the Internet and online dating it is now easy to find a date, particularly useful if you move in to a new area with no friends. For more dating advice please see my resource box below.
