How to get over a breakup is difficult especially if you still love your ex. After all, it's not easy to forget someone you love. When a relationship ends, it brings heartaches and sadness.
While you're trying to figure out how to get over a breakup, you encounter a lot of negative emotions. There's anger, resentment, maybe even bitterness. You know that the breakup is the right thing to do, but sometimes doing the right thing can be painful. So how do you get over someone you love?
Try to avoid your ex
If you still love your ex, then it's likely you won't be able to stand being around them without breaking into tears or feeling so miserable you just want to crawl into a hole. You may think that being friends with them would help ease your pain because you get to see them and talk to them. But the truth is, staying friends with your ex unless you're emotionally ready will only prolong the pain.
You might run into you ex by accident and if you do, it's best not to encourage contact. At least not yet. Be polite and don't ignore them but be sure you don't linger because you may fall apart or your ex will see how much the breakup is affecting you.
Don't spy on your ex
It's normal to feel curious about how your ex is doing. During a breakup, you may want to know if your ex is also feeling miserable like you. But don't let this curiosity get the better of you. Looking into their lives can only result to more pain.
How would you feel if you found out from mutual friends that your ex is starting to see other people? Or if you see your ex's Facebook account and found out that they posted something about going out with someone else? It's not really your business anymore and if you think finding out the truth will only make you feel more miserable, then don't spy on your ex.
Give yourself time to reflect
Ignoring the breakup will only keep the pain at bay temporarily. It won't get rid of it. Spend some time alone and reflect on what's happened. Why did the relationship fail? Ask yourself what you want to do next. It's not the end of the world and your life doesn't stop just because your ex is gone.
Think of this is a lesson and not as a failure. At least now you know what you need to do so that your next relationship would be successful. Even though you still love your ex, you can't let losing them take control of your life. While you're reflecting, tell yourself that you will find love again.
When trying to learn how to get over a breakup when you still love your ex, just remember that no matter how hard it seems, you'll get over it. It could take months or even years, but you'll get there. Take it one step at a time.
